Britney pick up prizes at MTV awards

Britney Spears picked up three prizes at the MTV Video Music Awards.

The singer who is slowly getting her career back on track following a public breakdown earlier this year looked stunning in a tight silver Versace dress as she took to the stage to open the Los Angeles ceremony, before accepting the trio of accolades.

As she picked up her first award for Best Female Video for Piece of Me, Britney who has two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, with ex-husband Kevin Federline - said: I'm speechless. Oh, my goodness, thank you! First I want to thank God for blessing me like this and my family... my two beautiful boys for inspiring me every day.

After winning Best Pop Video for the same track later in the evening, Britney hugged her manager Larry Rudolph before going up to collect her statuette.

The 26-year-old singer who had never won a Moonman, the nickname given to the distinctive silver awards, before completed the evening by winning the third award for which she was nominated, the biggest honour of the evening, Video of the Year.

AFTER a tumultuous year in which she was admitted to a psychiatric unit and lost custody of her children, Britney Spears has staged her greatest performance yet – appearing before the world looking healthy and composed.
The troubled pop singer dominated the 25th MTV Video Music Awards in Hollywood, winning awards for all three categories in which she was nominated.

The ceremony's host, comedian Russell Brand, declared the evening "the resurrection of Britney".The 26-year-old took home awards for best video, best pop video, and best female, all for her single, Piece Of Me.

Her haul of statuettes was not the defining moment of the evening – that was reserved for her ability to endure the ceremony without incident or embarrassment.

Only a year ago at the same awards, a dishevelled Spears delivered a universally mocked performance, lip-synching out of time and forgetting her dance steps to her single, Gimme More.

That precipitated a tough time for the singer, which saw her shave her head for the paparazzi, find herself admitted to a hospital psychiatric award, and lose custody of her two sons.

Spears received a standing ovation from the crowd as her best-known song, Baby One More Time, blasted through the auditorium's PA.

"I want to thank God first and foremost for just blessing me like this," she told the crowd of hardened music industry types as she accepted three awards, for best female video, best pop video and video of the year. "I want to thank my beautiful family, my two beautiful boys for just inspiring me every day. And my fans, this is for you. Thank you so much".

The crowd got to its feet and – as the singer flashed the innocent white-toothed smile that had once made her America's sweetheart – gave her a standing ovation. With that, Britney Spears was back.

PARAMORE SPEAK OUT FOR CYRUS

MILEY CYRUS has found an unlikely source of support in a rock star - PARAMORE's HAYLEY WILLIAMS.

The Hannah Montana star sparked controversy in the U.S. when the candid snaps - which show Cyrus posing bare-backed, wrapped in a satin sheet - emerged online, forcing the 15-year-old to issue an apology over the controversial Annie Leibovitz photos.
But Williams - who is a family friend of the star - insists her pal will survive unscathed by the scandal.

She tells MTV news, ""We grew up around the Cyrus family, and they're amazing people, and I know they wouldn't steer their daughter wrong.
"Miley's got a good head on her shoulders, so I think she'll come out of all this strong. She's a great girl."

PARAMORE have reassured fans they are not splitting up - insisting "the music's never gonna stop". The band sparked rumours of a split last month (Feb08) by cancelling the remaining dates on their European tour due to unspecified "internal issues". But the Tennessee four-piece were adamant they had put their problems behind them at a gig in La Zona Rosa as part of the South By Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas on Friday (14Mar08) night. Frontwoman Hayley Williams told the audience, "I know there's been a lot of craziness going on and if you follow our band you may have heard about it in the press or whatever, but the music is never gonna stop for us, and thanks for believing in us." She added, "This was our first show in about a month, and it couldn't have gone any better."

PARAMORE front woman HAYLEY WILLIAMS has dismissed reports the band is to split - despite cancelling the remainder of their European tour over "internal issues". The 19-year-old singer posted a message, signed by all four band members, on her blog on Thursday (21Feb08) announcing the group needed to take time off to work out their personal problems. But Williams has since updated her blog, insisting her comments were taken out of proportion. She writes, "Since we posted the last entry, we've gotten tons of phone calls and people posting things on Web sites saying that we are breaking up. I just want to make it clear, though... we weren't saying the band was over. We posted because we are going through hard times and we felt that because we have a really good support system in you guys, our fans, it would be better for us to just be honest about what's going on - even though it was a pretty vague explanation." And the flame-haired star has refuted allegations the tour cancellation was caused by her falling pregnant. Williams adds, "Man, some of the rumors that I've heard going around are insane! It's weird how out of hand things can get even when you just try to tell a simple truth (for the record, my Eggo is not preggo). Anyway, we just need to take time to make this band the best it can be... and we are doing that now." A spokesperson for Atlantic Records has confirmed Paramore are still scheduled to tour with Jimmy Eat World in April (08) in the U.S.

PARAMORE TOUR CANCELED DUE TO INTERNAL ISSUES

The future of PARAMORE is in doubt after the U.S. rockers abruptly cancelled the remainder of their European tour, blaming "a lot of internal issues". Singer Hayley Williams posted a message, signed by all four band members, on her internet blog on Thursday (21Feb08) announcing the group needs to take time off to work out their personal problems. Williams writes: "(There are) a lot of internal issues that have been going on in this band for quite a while now... "We were able to fight through all of it for this long, but unfortunately we weren't able to keep it together long enough to make it through the end of the tour.” We really feel that taking this time is going to give us a chance to get away and work out our personal issues at home and on our own terms. We just aren't willing to risk the life of our band over one tour... "Maybe one day we will tell the whole story, but for now, just know that all five of us are going to work so hard to get it right."

Paramore was due to have played five more European gigs including a date scheduled in Paris, France on Thursday (21Feb08) night.

PARAMORE SHOCKED BY ELDERLY FANS

U.S. rockers PARAMORE are surprised that their music exerts a pull on elderly fans - but insist older people "are cool". The pop-punk four-piece are surprised their tunes appeal to a more aged market, but credit their younger supporters with bringing their parents along to gigs - and end up becoming fans of the group.

Guitarist Josh Farro tells MTV.com, "At shows now there’s a lot of an older person. It's cool because we're used to kids our age and mostly younger. But now it's anywhere from 10 years old to 55. But it's cool that people older than my dad enjoy our music."

Drummer Zac Farro adds, "For every five 13-year-old girls, there's a dad with them. And they're like, 'Well, they dragged me to this concert, but I just like it. I'm still gonna be out there singing the words.' We get it all the time. 'I'm not gonna use headphones, because I want to rock out with you guys.'"

Rockers PARAMORE nearly let pass their set at England's Reading Festival last weekend (25Aug07) following their flight from the U.S was cancelled. The band - which was forced to pull out of the festival last year (06) because front woman Hayley Williams was sick - feared flight cancellations, would put this year's performance in jeopardy. But they finally managed to board a flight to the U.K in time to perform at the festival.

Williams says, "We had to cancel last year because I was really sick and I think it's time for another apology. But our flight got here today and now we're all together".

Madonna, "Hard Candy"

Madonna makes producers, producers don't make Madonna. The diva plucked William Orbit, Mirwais and Stuart Price from electronic music obscurity, meshing her own pop sensibility with their sonic specialty. But for "Hard Candy," Madge hooked up with name-brand guys like the Neptunes and Timbaland, and even brought on Justin Timberlake as a writing partner.

What results is, expectedly, of-the-moment and radio-ready. "4 Minutes," with Timberlake, is already a top three Billboard Hot 100 hit, and harmonious ballad "Miles Away" might be some of her best work yet. But it feels familiar. "Miles" is a close cousin to Timbaland's "Apologize," "Spanish Lesson" is a dead ringer for N*E*R*D's "She Likes to Move," and "Devil Wouldn't Recognize You" instantly recalls Timberlake's "Cry Me a River." That's par for pop acts when they collaborate with producers who are bigger stars than they are. But for a vanguard artist like Madonna, it feels like a bit of a concession.

The Cure singles release

Prior to releasing their 13th studio album The Cure will release four new singles.
The tracks will be issued on the thirteenth of each month, leading up to the release of the as-yet-untitled album in September.

The first single 'The Only One' – which has already been aired on the band’s recent European tour - will arrive on May 13. Subsequent singles will appear on the thirteenth day of June, July and August.

Each single will include unique B-sides – 'The Only One' will include the new song 'NY Trip', while June’s release, 'Freakshow' will be issued alongside the track 'All Kinds Of Stuff'. Details of the other two singles have yet to be announced.

'The Only One' is the first new material from the band since the Ross Robinson-produced self-titled album of 2004 and will appear on the Suretone/Geffen Records label.
The news comes as the band prepare to embark on a major US tour, which begins in Washington DC on May 9. The original American dates had to be rescheduled from late last year, as Smith wanted more time to finish the album.

Lopez's Twins Get Their Big Reveal

PEOPLE magazine has the first photos of Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez's twin babies, who were born in February. On the cover of the magazine, Lopez is seen smiling while holding her two newborns.

For Lopez and Anthony, joyfully nesting with their month-old twins means diaper duty, sleepless nights and the best sung lullabies in the business, PEOPLE reports in its latest cover story, on sale Friday.

The pair were interviewed at their Long Island estate, where they have been holed up since Lopez gave birth by C-section on Feb. 22 to Maximilian David and Emme Maribel. Since then, Lopez, 38, has shed most of the nearly 50 lbs. she gained during pregnancy – and has also entirely re-adjusted her attention.

"I've been very career-oriented my whole life and very focused on my own world and my own life, and all of a sudden the focus just shifts. It's like, 'Whoosh!' I want to do everything for them," says the new mom.

For Anthony, 39, life has changed, too. "I don't go to sleep!" he admits.

Describing the arrival of the babies, Lopez says, "To me, they both looked like Marc. I think that's the first thing I said: 'She looks like you! He looks like you, too!' My doctor said, 'Did Jennifer get a gene in here or what?' "

Pearl Jam Recharges For Summer Tour

After playing just two shows in 2007, Pearl Jam will return to the road this summer for a 10-date tour beginning June 11 in West Palm Beach, Fla. The dates come in conjunction with the group's previously announced co-headlining appearance at Tennessee's Bonnaroo Festival in mid-June.

"I'm looking forward to Bonnaroo," bassist Jeff Ament tells Billboard. "The thing that's probably the most exciting to me is that we've been a band for 17 or 18 years and there's still things like this that we haven't done."
The trek includes a June 24-25 stand at New York's Madison Square Garden, which has hosted some of the band's most iconic shows. Kings Of Leon will support from June 11-17, while Ted Leo and the Pharmacists will open the other dates.

A couple weeks ago, band members got together for eight days to begin kicking around ideas for the next Pearl Jam album, although Ament cautions, "It doesn't mean there'll be a record our next month, but it's the start of the process. Sometimes it takes six months and sometimes it takes two years."

"It's just fun to play," he continues. "We've actually gotten really good at jamming with each other, so it's fun to get together and crank up the amps. We'll have (drummer) Matt (Cameron) throw a beat at us and try to come up with something. There's some new, different kind of things coming out of people."

"We're just getting into it, which is so exciting," guitarist Stone Gossard opines. "We have no idea where it's going but we have a lot of great little starts."

Band members have plenty on their individual plates as well. Gossard is working on his second solo album with longtime collaborator Pete Droge and guitarist Mike McCready is preparing for his annual benefit show for the Northwest Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America, to be held May 3 at Seattle's Showbox.

Meanwhile, frontman Eddie Vedder's first solo tour, a short West Coast run, will get underway April 2 in Vancouver. "He's going to do great," Ament says. "He's been warming up for this his whole life, but especially the last seven or eight years, playing a song or two himself before our shows."

Britney Goes Gaga in 'Mother' of All Roles

(March 20) - Excited to see Britney Spears in her return to TV comedy on "How I Met Your Mother"? CBS has released two snippets of the troubled singer's turn as a lovestruck girl on the popular sitcom.

Spears shares scenes with the show's lead character, Ted, played by Josh Radnor, as a somewhat ditsy receptionist who works in his doctor's office and becomes smitten with him.

The episode is scheduled to air March 24.

The show would mark Spears' first role in a prime-time TV series since a March 2006 guest spot on the NBC comedy "Will & Grace," in which she played a Christian conservative talk show host opposite series regular Sean Hayes.

Spears' career as a performer has been mostly on the skids since her personal life plunged into turmoil following her breakup with Federline in November 2006.

She has been in and out of rehab, and her highly publicized comeback performance on the MTV Video Music Awards in September last year was widely panned as an embarrassing flop.

Britney Spears Wheeled Out Of House After Refusing To Turn Over Kids

The singer was reportedly under the influence of an unidentified substance when authorities were called to her house.

Britney Spears hit a perilous new low on Thursday night when authorities reportedly responded to a family-custody dispute at her house in Studio City, California. According to TMZ.com and other outlets, the singer refused to turn over her two children to ex-husband Kevin Federline, and authorities discovered her under the influence of an unidentified substance.

The Los Angeles Police Department was reportedly called to Spears' house after a person who has not been identified phoned authorities at 8 p.m. over a domestic disturbance. The call involved a "family custodial dispute that we are trying to resolve ... peacefully by court order," LAPD spokesman Officer Jason Lee told The Associated Press. She was due to have her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, until 7 p.m. that day. UsMagazine.com later reported that Federline's bodyguards had gone to pick up the children at Spears' house, but she refused to turn them over, despite a court order to do so. She had been with the children since noon, according to UsMagazine.com. Federline's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan had also been at the residence, TMZ reports.

Police went to Spears' home 90 minutes later, as did ambulances, fire trucks and a police helicopter, according to TMZ. While there, authorities reportedly found Spears "under the influence of an unknown substance," TMZ reports. She was later taken out of her home on a gurney by paramedics and taken to a local hospital, where she was reportedly placed under medical evaluation. According to multiple reports, the children are in the custody of Federline, who has temporary custody of the children because Spears has not obeyed court orders.

Earlier in the day, Spears finally sat down for her long-awaited deposition in her child-custody battle, although she cut the session short and was only questioned for 14 minutes. She had been scheduled to start her deposition at 9:45 a.m. but didn't leave her home until after 10 a.m., according to photos and video taken of her drive to her ex-husband's lawyer's offices in Century City, California. By the time Spears arrived, she was 90 minutes late, and proceedings didn't start until just after 11:30 a.m., according to Kaplan.

"I would've preferred it had gone on longer," Kaplan told reporters waiting outside the deposition. Kaplan was expected to ask the pop star, who he called "cooperative," about her alleged drug and alcohol use around her sons, as well as her driving habits and parenting techniques. Whether he got the answers he sought, he wouldn't say, except to offer, "You can imagine in 14 minutes there's not a lot of time to develop questions."

Spears lawyer Sorrell Trope, a partner at the law firm Trope and Trope — which on Wednesday asked to be withdrawn as her legal counsel — told UsMagazine.com in reference to the Thursday night incident, "In a normal case when someone shows up with a certified court order saying the kids need to be somewhere else, the police see to it that the order is obeyed. But that is in a normal case."

In the wake of her little sister Jamie Lynn's headline-grabbing pregnancy announcement, it seems Britney Spears has made every effort to turn the spotlight back on herself.

The singer filled another weekend with late-night shopping trips, run-ins with paparazzi and wild driving – but still found time for her kids.

The adventure began just after midnight on Saturday morning, when she and a friend, her assistant Carla, left her Beverly Hills home in the singer's Mercedes with its headlights off and trunk open. The posse made the first of several stops at a Rite-Aid store in Hollywood, where Spears parked in a disabled-designated parking spot.

"I have stuff I have to buy for my babies," Spears told photographers on her way in.

After testing – but not buying – deodorant sprays, she emerged, spending a total of $57.46, with Lucky Charms cereal, Purex laundry detergent, Mrs. Field's chocolate chip cookies and a 32-inch plush horse (regular price $29.99, marked down by 50 percent).

Led Zeppelin Takes London to the Promised Land

Who knows if Led Zeppelin will ever tour again? But if its last show was indeed Dec. 10 at London's O2 Arena, one thing is for sure: the band ended as it began, concise, precise and dynamic.

Like it was in the last few months of 1968, when the band toured as the New Yard birds to fulfill old obligations and start new dreams, each of the 16 songs played at the 02 remained amazingly faithful to their original framework. But within each song, the band never failed to evoke the power, majesty and yes, the hammer wielded during its original incarnation.

The 130-minute show began with "Good Times, Bad Times," which lurched from off-kilter rhythms and explosive outbursts of kinetic energy in what was little more than two minutes. As the crew at the board struggled to get the sound together during the second song, "Ramble On" ignited the audience and from there it went on from one peak to the next.

By the time "Black Dog" kicked in, there was no doubt the band was strutting its stuff. Singer Robert Plant, supposedly the most reluctant about future Zeppelin activity, appeared to be having the most fun on the stage, displaying many of the moves associated with the physical vocabulary he helped invent as one of rock's great front men.

While Led Zeppelin is as vaunted for the shading and dynamics built within its original framework, the so-called light side of its sound was hardly evoked during the evening, with the band moving into still even heavier territory. For starters, Zeppelin unleashed "In My Time of Dying," where Jason Bonham reminds the audience that he is his father's son and shows the Zep foundation is in good hands.

"For Your Life," from the band's somewhat overlooked yet magnificent "Presence" album, was followed by a frenetic "Trampled Underfoot" and "Nobody's Fault But Mine." These songs are showcases for the architects of the band's sound, guitarist Jimmy Page and multi-instrumentalist John Paul Jones, who shifted from bass to keyboard throughout the night.
These tunes set the stage for some of the band's signature magnum opuses: "No Quarter," "Since I've Been Loving You," "Dazed and Confused" and "Stairway to Heaven."

Led Zeppelin Dazzles at Joyous London Concert

For two hours and 10 minutes Monday night, renowned British rock band Led Zeppelin was back, rocking privileged fans at an ecstatic O2 Arena in London. It was something not seen for almost 20 years.

The evening was to honor late Atlantic Records founder and producer Ahmet Ertegun, and the band's devoted throng -- many of whom had paid thousands of dollars and flown thousands of miles to see them -- could not have been happier.

The Led Zeppelin part of the show began right on time at 9 p.m. local, with a giant screen showing clips from U.S. television when Led Zeppelin first toured the States.
Original members Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Robert Plant blasted onto the stage with drummer Jason Bonham, taking the place of his father, John Bonham, who died in 1980. The stage was brilliant and the lighting looked great, with an excellent video display offering multiple images behind the live players.

Page, 63, is stout these days, with puffy features and frizzled hair, but his fingers move just as quick. Plant, 59, whose visage is more familiar with all the publicity he's been doing for his hit album "Raising Sand" with Alison Krauss, appeared like a well-fed Anglo Wild Bill Hickok, commanding the stage and still finding those elusive trills.
Jones, 61, was clean cut and all business on keyboards or bass, and Bonham at the drums looked beefy but fit.

They began with a brisk version of "Good Times, Bad Times," with Page's guitar crisp and clear but Plant's voice cramped by feedback. When "Ramble On" followed, Plant's microphone was working better and he sounded in good voice, growling and snapping just like he used to.

GORILLAZ - D-Sides

Gorillaz' second rarities compilation covers "phase two" of the cartoon-avatar band's career, centering on its second album, 2005's "Demon Days." It's not all killer, but some impressive tracks lurk within.

Opener "68 State" is a sexy, fractured instrumental, propelled by a haunting bassline. "People" is also a great listen; the song is a demo version of "Demon Days" single "DARE," but here it has a completely different lyric and melody, sung by bandleader Damon Albarn (aka 2D) instead of eventual guest vocalist Shaun Ryder. "Hong Kong," originally recorded for a Warchild benefit album, is a different animal: Albarn is at his Blurriest, his voice melancholy yet hopeful as he muses over a river of gently plucked strings. A bonus disc features a host of remixes, including three versions each of "DARE" and "Kids With Guns."

Follow-up "Piece of Me" has already fostered scrutiny with lyrical response to obsessive media attention: "I'm Mrs. Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, I'm Mrs. Oh my God that Britney's shameless/ I'm Mrs. 'Extra,' 'Extra,' this just in, I'm Mrs. she's too big, now she's too thin." Musically, the song drips and drools '80s synths, alongside a drowsy midtempo clip, as Brit sings in a heavily layered near-monotone. SIMPLE PLAN - When I'm Gone

It may be a cliché to say that Simple Plan has developed a more mature sound on its self-titled third LP, but judging from infectious new single "When I'm Gone," teen angst has given way to a quarter-life crisis. Like Good Charlotte, the Montreal-based pop-punkers have made inroads at top 40 radio by exchanging punk attitude for pop accessibility.

They've also enlisted producers Dave Fortman and Timbaland protégé Danja to help redefine their sound. Fans distressed by the new direction can take solace in the fact that the quintet has retained its youthful exuberance and bratty charisma. "When I'm Gone" sputters to life with beats and beeps straight out of Timbaland's playbook, but it quickly morphs into an arena-ready anthem highlighted by rousing choruses and earnest lyrics.

Pitbull - The Boatlift

Pitbull's signature combination of clever, in-your-face Spanglish lyrics and frenetic dance beats is at its best on this album, where he plays to his less excessively crude sensibilities. The talented Miami MC shows his range here, deftly transitioning from uptempo dance to R&B to everything in between.

There are some party-perfect club tracks, particularly "The Anthem," a fun hip-shaker featuring Lil Jon, and "Midnight," featuring Casely on the hook. "Fuego," produced by Mr. Collipark and featuring Don Omar, has pleasing retro touches that recall "Planet Rock." Of the slower songs, the best is the refreshingly serious "My Life" ("I apologize, but this game made me a monster/I'm sorry"). The production is top-notch—if you don't mind the 2 Live Crew-ish blue streak, turn it up.

KYLIE MINOGUE

The hip producers (Calvin Harris, Bloodshy & Avant) and heavy-hitting songwriters (Guy Chambers, Cathy Dennis) are all present and correct, but they never overshadow Minogue's perky/ saucy pop/dance formula. You'll search in vain for insight into her recent personal traumas, but there's still plenty of heart and soul and, in the shape of "Sensitized," "In My Arms," "The One" and lead single "Two Hearts," her best batch of tunes in a while. A truly welcome return.

Even after a four-year absence and a courageous battle against cancer, Kylie Minogue's appetite for pop perfection remains undimmed. Indeed, her 10th studio album (due next year in the United States) is stuffed with pointers as to why she's one of the few pure pop artists to sustain a career into a third decade without ever pulling a Britney.

Maroon 5 - Won't Go Home Without You

Best new artist Maroon 5 and a Grammy Award winner sure is breaking the curse that so often follows the accolade. Following runaway hits "Makes Me Wonder" and "Wake Up Call," the quintet maintains strapping momentum of No. 1 platinum second album "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" with third single "Won't Go Home Without You," another track so organically hitworthy that one almost pities whomever had to decide the order of radio releases.

The tempo slows a bit this time, as singer/ songwriter Adam Levine laments letting go of a lady, though the chorus kicks in nicely with plugged guitars and spin-wheel percussion. Man, this guy can write hooks. Maroon 5 serves up songs that never seem to burn and will sound as relevant in years as they do now, while scaling the charts. The act is about two hits from becoming the premier pop band of the millennium.

Daughtry capitalized on its three nominations to win favorite pop-rock album for its self-titled debut, as well as breakthrough artist and adult contemporary artist honors.

Underwood matched her three wins at the Country Music Association Awards this month with three trophies Sunday: female country artist, country album for "Some Hearts," and the T-Mobile text-in award.

Justin Timberlake was a long-distance winner, accepting by video from Australia as his name was called for male pop-rock artist and in the soul/R&B album category for his "FutureSex/LoveSounds."

Usher presented the international artist award to Beyonce, who was a featured performer but did not win in any of her three competitive nominations.

Backstage, Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles said she was nervous to sing with Beyonce, who she described as "so beautiful."

Celine Dion performed her new song, "Taking Chances," and Lenny Kravitz sat at the piano to play his latest, "I'll Be Waiting."

Eighties band Duran Duran performed its new song, "Falling Down," as well as the old hit "Hungry Like the Wolf."

Fergie opened the show with a trio of songs from her debut album, then closed it by beating Beyonce and Avril Lavigne to win pop-rock female artist.

Alive 2007 DAFT PUNK

Zilch can fairly match the in-person thrills of the current Daft Punk live experience, what with the robot costumes, onstage pyramid and body-rattling beats radiating out into the blissed-out faithful.

Nevertheless "Alive 2007" comes pretty darn close, capturing a hometown Paris audience so jonesing for a Daft Punk fix that it loudly sings along with the synch melody on "Television Rules the Nation."

While it's great to hear the classics ("Da Funk," "One More Time") even if they're not played in full, perhaps the most useful service provided here is the rehabilitation of material from 2005's underwhelming 'Human After All." That album's massive "Robot Rock" proves a perfect table-setter for the dance party to come, while the industrial-strength house of "The Brainwasher" pushes things over the edge.

Red Carpet Ride For Duran Duran U.K. Date

Duran Duran has made a killing on a U.K. concert in support of its new album, "Red Carpet Massacre."

The scheduled Dec. 3 date at the historic 2,000-capacity Lyceum Theatre in London's West End sold out in just five minutes after going on sale this morning (Nov. 16), promoters AEG said today.

The two-hour performance, the British pop-rock veterans' first on home soil in two years, replaces an earlier date planned for the Odeon Leicester Square, which officials canceled over concerns the London landmark would be swamped by onlookers.

The Lyceum performance will follow the formula of the band's recent residency on Broadway, where, during a stint at the 1,100-seat Ethel Barrymore Theatre, they played a mix of old and new works, plus an electro set.

The group is also booked to perform a one-off concert Dec. 5 at Phoenix Park, Dublin, which forms part of the "Live At The Marquee Concert Series."

Van Halen Extends Tour With 2008 Dates

The Live Nation-produced trek -- Roth, Eddie and Alex Van Halen and Eddie Van Halen's teenage son Wolfgang on bass -- kicked off Sept. 27 in Charlotte, N.C., with 40 dates in place.

Now, five additional shows have been added: Oklahoma City (Jan. 22); Houston (Jan. 28); Omaha, Neb. (Feb. 4); Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (Feb. 12); and St. Louis (March 30), according to the band's official site.

The current tour is Roth's first with the Van Halen brothers in more than 20 years. Van Halen last toured in 2004 with vocalist Sammy Hagar, grossing nearly $40 million, according to Billboard Boxscore.

NEW YORK (Nov. 16) - The reunion of rock trio The Police for their first concerts in more than 20 years was named the top grossing and top ticket selling tour of 2007 Thursday at the 4th annual Billboard Touring Awards.Singer/bass player Sting, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers began the tour in May and it is due to end early next year, after traveling through North America, Europe, Latin America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

According to Billboard data up to Sept. 30, The Police have so far grossed more than $171 million from 53 shows seen by more than 1.5 million people.

Arthur Fogel, chairman of music for concert touring company Live Nation Inc who produced The Police tour, told the Billboard Touring Conference that the potential success of the tour was not taken for granted.

"Clearly there was pent-up demand from 20 plus years of them not touring and the fact that they were, when they split up in the mid-80s, ... at their peak and they were very prolific and very successful," he said.

But none of those factors could be taken for granted and that "from day one" it was determined that a high-profile launch was needed to ensure the tour was successful, said Fogel, who has produced 10 of the top 15 money-making tours of all time, according to Billboard.

The Police launched their tour in February at the famed Whisky A Go Go nightclub in West Hollywood with a news conference and mini-concert.

The top package award went to the country tour of Kenny Chesney with Sugarland, Pat Green, Brooks & Dunn, Sara Evans, which grossed more than $71.2 million from 55 shows seen by more than 1.1 million people.

Chesney was also awarded the top Country Music Association award for "Entertainer of the Year" last week.

Radiohead Sets U.S. 'Rainbows' Deal

NEW YORK (Nov. 14) - British rock group Radiohead has completed a deal with Dave Matthews' ATO Records Group for the U.S. release of its new album, which fans can download from the Web for a price of their choosing.

"In Rainbows," to be released on a new imprint dubbed TBD Records, will arrive Jan. 1, one day after being issued in the United Kindgdom by XL Recordings, which handles such acts as the White Stripes and Devendra Banhart.

In recent weeks, ATO quickly emerged as the front-runner and most attractive U.S. home for Radiohead, which recorded for EMI until 2005. Although no official relationship with the band was announced beforehand, ATO has been working the Radiohead tracks "Bodysnatchers" and "Jigsaw Falling Into Place" to U.S. radio for the past couple of weeks.

As for the meaning of TBD Records, a spokesperson said, "we ran into trouble in trying to clear all previously discussed potential label names."

"In Rainbows" was first made available Oct. 10 via Radiohead.com, just 10 days after the band announced the album was complete. Fans were given the option to name their own price for a download of the album, which is also being sold in a deluxe discbox edition with CD and vinyl. That package ships "on or before Dec. 3," according to the site.

Radiohead will support "In Rainbows" with world tour dates beginning next spring. The group returned to action with a live Webcast Friday on its site, featuring performances of songs from the new album.

Other ATO acts include Patty Griffin, Gomez, My Morning Jacket and Crowded House. Matthews co-founded New York-based ATO (According To Our) Records with his manager and two associates.

After a debut album that sold 6 million-plus copies, Carrie Underwood is under significant pressure to keep the momentum going. Luckily, the Oklahoman delivers in spades on her sophomore effort, on which she was much more involved in the creative process.

First single "So Small," No. 4 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, is a soaring song about the important things in life. "Just a Dream" is the tale of the death of a young soldier from the perspective of his girl back home, while "Last Name," about a drunken flirtation that turns into a Vegas marriage, is a fun diversion.

Underwood provides a growling and gritty vocal on the defiant "Flat on the Floor" and convincingly covers Randy Travis' 1988 hit "I Told You So," which has long deserved a second life. If only every follow-up was this good.

The British indie-pop Monkeys walked away with the award for New Artist of the Year, continuing the surge that followed the release of the band's 2006 debut album, "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not."

Band of Horses accepted Album of the Year honors for "Everything All the Time," which also picked up Song of the Year for "The Funeral" as well as the award for Americana Album of the Year.

Malkmus accepted the Plug Impact Award for "his contribution to independent music through his prolific career in Pavement, Silver Jews and his solo work."

Rounding out some of the other main award categories, Yo La Tengo accepted the award for Indie Rock Album of the Year for the band's most recent set, "I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass," while Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke nabbed the prize for Electronic/Dance Album of the Year for "The Eraser."

Band of Horses 'Begin' new life as trio

Indie rockers Band of Horses have weathered the departure of founding guitarist Mat Brooke and will return to the road this fall with a new studio album set for release in October.

The band was down to sole remaining member (and co-founder) Ben Bridwell following Brooke's resignation last year, but are back up to trio strength with the addition of new members Rob Hampton and Creighton Barrett. Brooke's stated reason for splitting with Bridwell was to focus attention on his other going concern, indie rockers Grand Archive.

The reformulated Band of Horses will kick off its fall/winter outing Oct. 14 in Atlanta, with the group expecting to hit 21 cities on a trek that runs late into November. All dates are listed below.

"Cease to Begin," due in stores Oct. 9, is the follow up to last year's critically lauded "Everything All the Time," the band's full-length debut on the Sub Pop label. For the new disc, the group worked once again with producer Phil Ek, splitting studio time between Seattle and Asheville, NC. The album will ship in both CD and vinyl formats, with the CD version including eight removable photo cards featuring pictures by longtime Band of Horses photographer Christopher Wilson.

Bridwell and Brooke formed Band of Horses in 2004 out of the ashes of their previous band, Carissa's Weird, which released three indie-label albums. Already well known in Seattle indie circles, the duo signed with Sub Pop and toured extensively with Iron & Wine and Okkervil River before cutting their debut album.

If Ben Bridwell felt any pressure in crafting a worthy successor to his group's debut breakthrough, "Everything All the Time," it hardly shows.

Fitting of a man who wrote a song called "Weed Party," "Cease to Begin" finds Bridwell--his unkempt beard approaching hippie proportions these days--unapologetically baring his dude-bro demeanor. Between albums, he moved back home to South Carolina (from Seattle), inspiring a regional warmth, the musical equivalent of Southern hospitality.

There are no songs here quite as epic or grandiose as "The Funeral" or "The Great Salt Lake," but Bridwell is just as happy to seek peace and comfort in more humble doses. "Cease to Begin" checks in at 10 tracks (that is, if you include the 50-second "Lamb on the Lam") and 35 minutes.

The payoff here is not in sprawling guitar jams, but in Bridwell's high-on-life outlook that is equal parts corny and endearing. On the down-home "Ode to LRC," Bridwell wonders: "The town is so small, how could anybody not look me in the eye and wave as I drive by?" Then, with no hint of irony, he soars: "The world is such a wonderful place."

But Bridwell is at his romantic best on "No One's Gonna Love You," a misleading title given the chorus: "No one's ever gonna love you more than I do." If Bridwell didn't mean it so much, you'd half-expect to hear the friend from "Wayne's World" chime in, "No, I love you, man."

Chuckle if you must. But Bridwell, whose former Horses bandmate Mat Brooke left to work on other projects, seems to thrive on an infallible spirit and certain sincerity in which only the harshest of cynics would find fault.

Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver, Paramore Usher Invasion Into L.A.

Saturday at the Home Depot Center, usually home to David Beckham and the LA Galaxy, KROQ transformed the center for their annual Invasion concert. For the first time, KROQ re-located their large festival from the Inland “909″ to good ol’ Los Angeles, and what a great idea it was. With an amazing turnout at the beautiful venue, Paramore, an MTV favorite, opened up the main stage around 3:10pm. They started off their set with an old single, a crowd favorite that took the fans from dead to screaming and alive in seconds. It was my first time seeing them live, and what a show it was. Hayley Williams, the insanely dyed-redhead lead singer, played to the crowd as all the young fans in the front row yelled her name back at her. I couldn’t tell if I left Paramore’s set deaf because of the music blasting from the speakers or from the massive crowd screaming at my back. Either way, seeing Paramore perform live for the first time was well worth it!

One hour later Perry Farrell’s Satellite Party took the stage, and man do they know how to put on a show. Between Perry and his wife Etty (backup singer) making out onstage, to Perry jumping into the photo pit to pour his bottle of wine into the fans’ beer cups, this set was over the top. Only at a KROQ concert would you ever see something like that.

Later on, Tommy Lee’s “best friend” Kid Rock took the stage. Let me say, out of all the musicians at Invasion this year he was by far the biggest surprise to me when it came to talent. At one point during his 40 min set he walked around to every instrument (guitar, drums, mixing table, etc.) and proceeded to play each as if he was a master at every instrument. It was absolutely incredible, and it definitely gave me a newfound look on Kid Rock’s musical talents.

Thanks to a rotating stage, providing a non-stop live show, the next band was able to set up their equipment on the other side. After Kid Rock finished his set and escorted his four go-go dancers off the stage, the rotating platform begin to move to reveal Velvet Revolver to the crowd. Of course like always Slash played the crap out of his guitar as if he came out of mother’s womb with it, as Scott Weiland screamed out some amazing vocals.

Following Velvet Revolver was by far the best performance of the night. The infamous Foo Fighters took the stage. Dave Grohl opened their set with a solo to ease the crowd into an amazing one-hour show. The best part of their set had to have been the moment where Dave Grohl jumped into the photo pit onto the shoulders of a large security guard. Thank God for wireless technology because the next 5 minutes of their set Dave Grohl played his wireless guitar on top of the security’s shoulders as he ran him through the crowd from one side of the arena to the other. I have never seen something like that before! What an amazing performance!

Joining these bands were other amazing artists, such as Hot Hot Heat, Against Me!, Cypress Hill, Chris Cornell and Smashing Pumpkins closing the night out. Overall it was a great day filled with insane performances. Check out just a couple of photos I was able to take from the photo pit thanks to KROQ!

Paramore stages another Riot

Pop-punk quintet Paramore continues to tear up the road behind its latest album, "Riot!," with a whole new slate of North American dates booked for the fall.

The Tennessee-based band will finish a run of West Coast radio festivals next week before heading to Japan and Australia for a handful of shows into early October, and will then return to North America for a headlining trek, which is scheduled to crisscross the US and stop by Toronto. The outing takes off Oct. 23 in Sayreville, NJ, and runs through a Nov. 28 finale in New York City.

The Starting Line will join Paramore on the tour with special guests The Almost and Set Your Goals each having a turn in the opening slot. North American dates are listed below.

"Riot!," Paramore's sophomore set on the Fueled by Ramen label, debuted at No. 20 on The Billboard 200 in June and recently jumped to No. 15. The album's first single, "Misery Business," is in the Top 10 at modern-rock radio and the video is making serious waves at MTV. The song and video are streaming at the band's MySpace page.

Fronted by 18-year-old Hayley Williams, Paramore has already been supporting the album all over the globe this year with tours of Japan, Australia, Europe and the US, including a mainstage slot on the Vans Warped Tour.

The group has been on many "bands to watch" lists since releasing its 2005 debut, "All We Know is Falling," which spawned the singles "Pressure" and "All We Know."

Paramore will play their own headline tour dates in early September, after the Tennessee four-piece perform at this Summer's Reading and Leeds Festival on August 25th-26th respectively.

The quartet will only play five dates in Portsmouth, Wolverhampton, Manchester, Cardiff and London, with all tickets priced at £12 or £13.50 or London. Tickets go on sale this Saturday July 7th at 9am.

Paramore Schedule Second London Show

Paramore have sold out a few dates on their September tour, but have now scheduled a second night in London.

The new date will be held at the Astoria venue on September 7th, after the previous night's performance sold out in less than two hours.

Those fans who are attending the Wolver Hampton show will also need to know that the venue has been upgraded and the performance will now take place at the city's 3000 capacity Civic Hall.

But that's not all Paramore fans, as the band will follow the dates with a new single called Hallelujah.

Paramore has practically grown up together, a totally down-to-earth group led by 18-year-old Hayley, whose spunky personality and fab orange eyeshadow we fell in love with. Joined by three (cute!) guys: brothers Zac (17) and Josh (19), and Jeremy (22) -- they formed when Hayley was only 12 years old! And their music has grown up with them. They said the feel of Riot, their new album which just dropped, is much different from past albums, and much more mature. Hayley was asked what it's like being around three guys constantly. (We admit it -- we're a tad bit jealous!) Hayley said it's more like having three brothers -- they're fun, crazy, and totally protective of her. But she's found the perfect outlet for her girliness, away from the boys -- hair and makeup. She said she loves to have fun doing her makeup and dyeing her hair different colors -- and, judging from her effortless glam look, she's pretty good at it.

It'll be Paramore's third year on Warped Tour, and they couldn't be more pumped. Jeremy described the atmosphere on the tour as circuslike and high-energy. But, while Paramore loves to party and have fun, one thing they won't do is drugs. The whole group was in agreement that drugs are totally not worth it, and we definitely admire them for that.

Paul McCartney latest album "Memory Almost Full"

Paul McCartney says the inspiration for the title of his latest album, "Memory Almost Full" came from a phrase he saw on his cell phone.

"It seemed symbolic of our lives today," the 65-year-old ex-Beatle said Monday. "Your messages are always full. And your mind is full. And it doesn't matter if you're my age or 20. I think that we all need to delete stuff every so often."

McCartney is in Paris for a concert at the Olympia theater. He made his first appearance at the Olympia in 1964 with the Beatles, a performance that caused havoc in the streets. He returned to the theater nearly a decade later with Wings, the group that gave him a new life on the stage in the post-Beatles era.

Dressed casually in jeans and sneakers, McCartney gave the press a concert preview of "Let It Be" and "Lady Madonna," singing and playing the piano.

Beyonce Launches World Tour in Ethiopia

(October 21)Beyonce Knowles began her world tour in front of an audience of 5,000 fans in Ethiopia, a country usually unimpressed by Western music.

The 26-year-old Texan R&B singer gave a spirited two-hour performance in the Ethiopian capital Saturday evening, as part of the country's yearlong celebration of its 2,000th year according to the Coptic calendar.

Addis Ababa hosted L.A. -based hip-hop group the Black Eyed Peas in September, when the celebrations began, but reception was tepid.

Beyonce's opening act, multi-platinum-selling rapper Ludacris, also received lukewarm reaction.

But something about Beyonce seems to have struck a chord in Ethiopia, where even young Ethiopians are steadfast fans of tunes sung in the national language, Amharic. The audience was ecstatic when she came onstage for her concert, which included many ballads from her recent release, "B-day."

"Rap music doesn't suit Ethiopia," said Michael Melake, a 36-year-old local music promoter. "Ethiopians need a melody. Rap music is all about the message and we don't identify with that. It's all about the black American experience, and we don't relate to that."

Enoch Nicano, a 30-year-old nightclub owner, provided a slightly simpler explanation for Beyonce's fan base in Ethiopia.

"She's hot," he said, then paused to reconsider. "She's more than hot."

In a country where many women wear simple white dresses with colored stripes at the hemline and sleeves, all made from local cotton, Beyonce's outfits were covered in sequins or shiny, space-age material - from a modern interpretation of a hula girl with shiny black tendrils replacing the grass skirt to a high-necked Victorian-style top.

Despite - or perhaps because of - her outfits, many in the crowd appeared to genuinely enjoy Beyonce's performance.

Concert organizers were a little more delicate about why Ethiopians are so fond of the singer.

"Because she loves Ethiopia," said Mulugeta Aserate, a member of Ethiopia's millennium secretariat.

The singer conveyed that herself, showing genuine emotion before closing the show to deafening applause.

"I want to thank you," she told the screaming crowd. "You have been one of the best audiences of my lifetime."

Of the week's releases, I have probably spun Saturday Looks Good to Me's Fill Up the Room the most, it's one f my favorite discs of the year so far.

Kid Rock Charged in Waffle House Brawl

(Oct. 21) - Rocker Kid Rock was arrested early Sunday morning after a brawl at a Georgia waffle house.

Fox 5 News in Atlanta is reporting that Kid Rock, born Robert Ritchie, stopped in for a bite at approximately 5:15 in the morning, following a performance at a local club.

Another patron, identified as Harlen Akins, recognized a female member of Rock's entourage and the two began to exchange words. As things progressed, the altercation moved out into the parking lot, where it turned into a brawl.

Police were alerted and Rock's tour bus was soon pulled over, whereupon he and five other passengers were arrested and charged with simple battery. He was out on bond by 5 PM, signing autographs as he returned to his bus.

Akins was charged with felony assault and second degree criminal damage to property.

Nirvana's 'Unplugged' Heading to DVD

NEW YORK (Oct. 20) - Nirvana's 1993, "MTV Unplugged" taping will make its DVD debut Nov. 20.

"MTV Unplugged in New York" was released Nov. 1, 1994, on CD, the first Nirvana product to appear following Kurt Cobain's suicide that April.

Like the CD, the Universal Music DVD will include the songs "Something in the Way" and "Oh Me," which did not appear on the original MTV broadcast. The DVD also sports four tracks from the band's soundcheck and previously unreleased behind-the-scenes footage.

Nirvana's "Unplugged" date is arguably the most famous in the long-running series, as the band eschewed most of its hits in favor of lesser-known album tracks and obscure covers (particularly, three Meat Puppets songs). The live version of "About a Girl" reached No. 1 on Billboard's Modern Rock tally.

Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls

It's a slice of reggae-pop minimalism for summer 2007. Sean Kingston's debut single welds a simple lyric onto heavily sampled instrumental tracks from Ben E. King's classic "Stand By Me." Kingston's somewhat unpolished nasally vocals could wear thin quickly or "Beautiful Girls" may be just what you need for a singalong with the top down on the convertible on the way to the beach. I'm giving the teenager the benefit of the doubt and leaning to the latter category.

Beautiful Girls Review

17-year-old Jamaican-born Sean Kingston has a strong music pedigree. His uncle is reggae artist Buju Banton, and his grandfather was a reggae producer. "Beautiful Girls" is reminiscent of Akon's helium-voiced reworking of Bobby Vinton's "Mr. Lonely" 2 years ago that landed him in the pop mainstream with the top 5 hit "Lonely." Instead of borrowing from Bobby Vinton, Sean Kingston takes the work of another early rock icon, Ben E. King, and sculpts the instrumental track for "Beautiful Girls" by borrowing heavily from "Stand By Me."

This is the first time in my recollection that the word "suicidal" has been put so obviously front and center in a mainstream pop song. It works here, and it doesn't seem nearly as startling as it might have if Rihanna had not equated cheating on a lover with murder on her hit "Unfaithful." Those "beautiful girls" can be rough on a guy's ego!

The melody of "Stand By Me" is indeed classic, and Sean Kingston has an appealing, fresh-faced approach. You just might find yourself singing "su-i-cidal" all summer long.

Soulja Boy Begins Sixth Week Atop Hot 100,

Soulja Boy's "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" remains unstoppable on the Billboard Hot 100, where it begins a sixth non-consecutive week at the top. Kanye West's "Stronger" continues to hold at No. 2, while Timbaland's "Apologize" featuring OneRepublic inches up 4-3 and is the top digital gainer after selling 133,000 downloads.

Alicia Keys' "No One" jumps 8-4 as the fastest growing track at radio, and rises 2-1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, her fifth No. 1 on that chart. Colbie Caillat's "Bubbly" climbs 7-5 on the Hot 100 to make her the first new female artist in the top 5 since Fergie in August 2006.

Britney Spears' "Gimme More" falls 6-3, while another Timbaland song, "The Way I Are" featuring Keri Hilson, slides 5-7. J. Holiday's "Bed" is down 6-8, Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry" holds at No. 9 and Kanye West's "Good Life" featuring T-Pain remains at No. 10.

The Hot 100's top debut comes from Sara Evans' "As If" at No. 74. Also new are Sugarland's "Stay" at No. 89, Fergie's "Clumsy" at No. 91 and the Last Goodnight's "Pictures of You" at No. 95.

Back on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Jay-Z earns his second Hot Shot Debut honor in recent weeks with "Roc Boys (And the Winners Is)" at No. 52. "Blue Magic" debuted at No. 35 three weeks ago.

On Hot Country Songs, Kenny Chesney scores his third No. 1 of the year with "Don't Blink," which rises 2-1. Chesney led for three weeks in March with "Beer in Mexico" and five this summer with "Never Wanted Nothing More."

Rock has had several bigger weeks in terms of sales (2000's "The History of Rock" bowed in the runner-up slot with 457,000) but this is the best debut of his four prior top 10 albums.

Last week's No. 1, Bruce Springsteen's "Magic" (Columbia), suffers a 60% drop-off to 130,000 and falls to No. 2. Rascal Flatts' "Still Feels Good" (Lyric Street) is down 2-3 after a 43% slide to 96,000.

LeAnn Rimes' "Family" (Curb) is new at No. 4 after selling 74,000, her 12th charting effort on The Billboard 200. matchbox twenty's "Exile on Mainstream" (Atlantic) falls 3-5 in its second week after a 45% sales decline to 72,000. Kanye West's "Graduation" (Def Jam) rebounds 7-6 despite a 23% sales fall to 71,000.

Reba McEntire's "Reba Duets" (MCA) also inches up 8-7 on a 15% drop to 68,000, whie Sara Evans debuts at No. 8 with "Greatest Hits" (RCA) on sales of 66,000. Her last set, 2005's "Real Fine Place," debuted at No. 3 with 126,000.

Disney's "High School Musical 2" soundtrack climbs 10-9 despite a 14% drop to 66,000, while Josh Groban's holiday album "Noel" (143/Reprise) debuts at No. 10 with sales of 64,000.

Three debuts arrive in the Nos. 12-14 spots, with Jennifer Lopez' "Brave" (Epic) new at No. 12 with sales of 53,000. All of her previous six studio albums, including this year's Spanish-language "Como Ama Una Mujer," debuted in the top 10 -- and four of those peaked in the top two slots.

Alter Bridge's Universal debut, "Blackbird," starts at No. 13 with 47,000, while Eric Clapton's "Complete Clapton" (Reprise) bows at No. 14 with 45,000. Additional top 40 debuts come from the Naked Brothers Band's self-titled Sony album (No. 23; 34,000), Puddle Of Mudd's Geffen set "Famous" (No. 27; 31,000) and Band Of Horses' sophomore Sub Pop album, "Cease To Begin" (No. 35; 21,000).

Album sales are down 6.3% from last week at 8.34 million units and 17.4% from the same week in 2006 (10.09 million units).

Kid Rock Splits With Longtime Manager

Just as he's reached the top of the album charts for the first time, Kid Rock has made a major change at the top of his business operations.

Rock's manager, Detroit-based Ed "Punch" Andrews, who also handles Bob Seger, has resigned after seven years of working with the Michigan rocker. Sources tell Billboard.com that Andrews has decided to retire after shepherding Rock's latest album, "Rock N Roll Jesus," to release last week.

"Rock N Roll Jesus" is Rock's first No. 1 album on The Billboard 200, selling just over 170,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Rock has reportedly replaced Andrews with Nashville-based Vector Management, which handles Bon Jovi, Lynyrd Skynyrd and others.

Neither Rock, who was performing in Nashville, nor Andrews could be reached for comment. It's unknown whether Andrews will continue working with Seger, whom he's handled since the late '60s.

Rock is in the midst of a theater tour to promote "Rock N Roll" Jesus." He also has TV appearances slated for "Ellen" on Oct. 25, ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Oct. 26, the American Music Awards on Nov. 22 and on Larry the Cable Guy's VH1 Christmas special in December.

"Amen," the second single from "Rock N Roll Jesus," will ship to radio later this month, according to Rock's web site.

Paramore To Release Their Next Single

Paramore have named their next single following their recent sold out UK tour, and it is another lifted from their hugely popular second album Riot!

The four-piece will now release the song crushcrushcrush on November 19th through Fueled By Ramen records and if you attended any of the shows recently, you'll recognise the track as a standout and fan favourite.

Paramore's popularity seems to be rising steadily by the day and thanks to constant touring, the band have now sold over 250,000 copies of Riot! since being released 13 weeks ago.

Paramore Part ways with Guitarist

Tennessee outfit PARAMORE have parted ways with rhythm guitarist Hunter Lamb. The band have issued the following statement on the matter:

"The past few months have brought incredible things our way and have also forced us to face some of the hardest times we've ever been through as a band... both professionally and personally. At some points, we had no clue how we would all come through or if we'd even make it far enough to record the album. And even though we made our way through many of those things, we weren't able to come through the way we had pictured it.

"We have parted ways with our friend and guitarst for the past year, Hunter Lamb. We wish Hunter the best in all that he does next and in his engagement and marriage. It was a blessing getting to know him on the road and we were lucky to have him in the band with us. Obviously, we've been through more than a couple member changes and we are sure it's probably frustrating and confusing to you guys and we aren't really sure what more to say. Sometimes, things just don't work out the way you thought they would.

"Right now, we feel really great as a four piece band. But who knows what the future might hold, as we are always full of these types of surprises.
Hopefully, these changes will better prepare us for the year(s) to
come."

NEW YORK (Billboard) - He was the chain-smoking, Jack Daniels-drinking guitarist for one of the most explosive bands in history. But in his memoir "Slash," out October 30 via HarperEntertainment, the former Guns N' Roses member wants to set the record straight.

Fans can take note: riots, overdoses and controversies all make appearances. There are also surprises, from how Saul Hudson was dubbed Slash, to what it was like living with mercurial singer Axl Rose in their rehearsal space.

Just don't bother asking Slash, now sober and playing guitar in Velvet Revolver, if the original Guns will get back together, because he insists it won't happen. Ever.

BILLBOARD: IN THE BOOK, YOU MENTION THAT YOU FELT ROCK BIOGRAPHIES WERE "INACCURATE AND FULL OF S---." HOW DID YOU GO ABOUT SETTING THE TONE TO AVOID THIS?

SLASH: I've been approached about doing a book for probably all the wrong reasons so many times, I couldn't validate it in my own mind. For one, it seemed very self-indulgent, very self-centered and very final -- and I have no plans of retiring. Finally, I started to realize all this Guns hype that goes on, all this bull--- that surrounds that band, it's inaccurate, and most isn't even inaccurate, it's just made up. I got fed up with it. (The book will) answer a lot of these questions. I just figured, "Be as honest as possible."

BILLBOARD: DRUGS AND DRINKING ARE A BIG PART OF THE STORY. HOW DID IT FEEL TO SEE THIS DOWN ON PAPER?

SLASH: A lot of that stuff I came back and cut out because I didn't want it to be one of those books that basically bragged about how hardcore (we were), blah, blah, blah. Especially nowadays, (because) a lot of musicians and rock bands have this badge they wear that says that they can party really hard, and I hate that. But I probably talk more about that than I actually talk about music. The music was sort of a natural thing you don't have to talk about, but chemical abuse was sort of every living, breathing moment.

BILLBOARD: A HUGE PART OF THE BOOK IS GUNS AS YOU'RE TOURING AND THE TARDINESS OF AXL ROSE. WAS THERE EVER ANY EXPLANATION OF WHAT WAS BEHIND THAT?

SLASH: There's no mention of that in the book at all because it's not my place. In other words, if there was some sort of history that was common knowledge, it would be different. Because there was no real logic behind any of it, the only thing I could do was sort of put the facts there the way I saw it. There could be a lot of stuff that I don't know about that goes on even behind the scenes, behind the scenes, behind the scenes.

BILLBOARD: THERE'S TWO YEARS OF FOOTAGE FROM THE "USE YOUR ILLUSION" TOUR. ANY CHANCE A FILM WILL BE MADE?

SLASH: I know right now there's no rhyme or reason behind the business really that is the Guns N' Roses original lineup or as close to the original lineup as we ended up with. All that stuff is in such a topsy-turvy state, and there's really no relationship -- a healthy, positive relationship, at least -- between myself and Axl. (So) I really don't have any idea as to how any of that stuff will see the light of day. The situation will hopefully be rectified at one point.

BILLBOARD: ARE YOU WRITING NEW MATERIAL FOR VELVET REVOLVER? ARE THERE ANY PLANS TO ADD DATES TO THE CURRENT ITINERARY?

SLASH: We have Japan and Australia booked for November and December, and then I think we'll probably be heading to Europe at the beginning of the year. We're going until the end of next summer for sure. We just got started touring, so as a group I can't say that we're actively working on the new record, but I've got my little recording apparatus on my guitar in my room, and that's what I do during the days off on the tour. That's where I start putting ideas down.

BILLBOARD: FINALLY, (AXL ROSE'S GUNS PROJECT) "CHINESE DEMOCRACY." WILL IT EVER SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY?

Thankfully, there's a little more to 12 Stones than living off the reflected glory of a lucky collaboration. Potter's Field, 12 Stones' second album, builds on the sound of their steadily-selling debut album as they continue their attempt to take up the mantle of former touring partners, Creed.

12 Stones is an incredible band, but not only in the genre of Christian rock, but in the rock genre as a whole. The talent of the band really shines on this one: the awesome, heavy guitar riffs, sweet drum beats, and incredible lyrics and vocal talent of Paul McCoy (he has a great singing voice and screams a little bit when it's necessary in the context of the songs) really leave the listener in awe.

They really have an uplifting message for Christians and non-Christians alike that I truly appreciate, but they are definitely not afraid to show their faith in Christ with their incredible words. This band really cares about their listeners - which is also very inspiring.
This is really an incredible compilation of songs. "Far Away" is an incredible smash hit about the feelings and pain someone is going through as his/her friend has committed suicide..... it is truly an intense and heartbreaking song that no rock fan should miss (and please don't think this is depressing music, because it's not..... it is music that's truly relevant to today's society). "Stay" and "Photograph" are a few more great hits off this one that are incredible. Really, the whole 12 Stones Potter's Field album is awesome - I can't even skip through a song because it is really that good!

I'd have to say I think 12 Stones were able to pull off an even better album than the first. The first though still has a couple tracks that surpass anything on this album though and that's probably why I still think the self-titled comes close. All around their second release is pretty solid and will please fans of the first record as well as anyone who enjoys modern rock.

You couldn't ask for anything more from 12 Stones. For their second release they stuck with what they do best. If your sick of modern rock this won't do, but If you're like me and enjoy a lot of rock like this then I'm sure you'll find something on this album to enjoy. I liked pretty much every track here. Still, because it doesn't offer a new sound that does hold it back slightly but it still doesn't take away from the music. Hey, if it sounds good, it's good. My favorite tracks would probably be "Shadows", "Waiting For Yesterday", "Bitter", and "3 Leaf Loser".

"Potter's Field" wastes no time pumping things up with the first track "Shadows," an up-tempo roller coaster of a song urging one to get rid of their hate and find their identity. "Don't you want to find your way home again? Just leave your hate behind!" Paul screams in the rolling pre-chorus. "When will you learn to just be you? (Find your own way) When will you learn to follow through? (Make your own way.)" The song's an exciting track and kick-off to the great songs that lie ahead.

This new single by 12 Stones, “Far Away” from their sophomore release “Potter’s Field” is a mixture of tourmates Creed and Three Doors Down. If you weren’t one of the 300,000 who bought their debut album then perhaps you’ve heard of them via McCoy’s vocals on Evanescence’s “Bring Me to Life”. Regardless this hard-working band is going nowhere but up.

We're back to more rocking out with the current single from this album, and a fine choice for a single it is. "Far Away" is one of the catchiest, tightest tracks off the CD. In the song, Paul talks about the distance he feels from someone, and how he wants to come back. "Now I'm feeling so far away, and now I'm hating you everyday." This song, like many of 12 Stones others, offers their buffet of screams, echoes, power chords, and the word "hit" written all over it, no wonder it's a single.

Although it's been a rising controversy as to whether 12 Stones is a Christian band or not, it's no doubt they're "Christians in a band" as Paul's said himself in the past, and this song stands out as their most spiritual. In the song, Paul sings indirectly to God about losing everything and needing Him and only Him. "Take it all away from me and tell me how you want this to be, I want you, I need you." He makes it pretty clear that he's singing vertically in the verses "You never change, never stay the same like a picture-perfect sunrise," pretty aggressive for a "praise song," and I mean that in a good way.

12 Stones - Potter's Field is more accomplished than the band's debut, but the group hasn't yet developed a distinct voice in a rock scene overcrowded with soundalikes. 12 Stones - Potter's Field is a muscular hard rock in the vein of Saliva, Seether, Three Days Grace, and virtually every other band on Wind-Up's roster. 12 Stones' sophomore effort aims to capitalize on the recognition brought by Paul McCoy's memorable chorus cameo in the Evanescence monster hit "Bring Me to Life." It opts for a more powerful, guitar-heavy sound than their 2002 debut, and demands maximum radio-friendly compression from returning producer/mixer Dave Fortman.

This approach should make thick-stemmed rockers like "Speak Your Mind" and "Far Away" quite palatable to loud rock audiences, or at least those who want more from the Creed fallout than Alter Bridge. For that's what 12 Stones offers -- urgent post-grunge rockers that follow a distinct and marketable formula. Loud lead riffs balance on introspective verses, which then burst into elegiac and/or bittersweet chorus melodies that get the hands in the arena a-wavin'. Fans of Nickelback and 3 Doors Down should be right at home here in Potter's Field.

It'll be interesting to track Potter's Field's trajectory as time passes by. It's a palatable record by Christian rock standards, as it conforms to many of the genre's standards and is quite innocuous for the most part. But its future with mainstream audiences is the question mark. Alternative conduits are being far more selective with post-grunge rock, opting rather for the out-of-the-box likes of Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Jet, and Modest Mouse when choosing their playlists. 12 Stones are nowhere near this level of innovation, but merely remain content with what they've done before.

12 Stones is a rock band from Mandeville, Louisiana. Lead vocalist Paul McCoy was also featured in the successful Evanescence single "Bring Me to Life", for which he won a Grammy. The name of the band is a reference to their Christian values. As stated on their official website, "12 Stones" is taken metaphorically from the twelve stones in the Hoshen, a breastplate worn by the high priest of Levitical order in the Old Testament. The rights to the name were bought from a family who had come up with the name for their cottage. In an interview on the national television special Broken TV, McCoy explained that the band's name reflects a reference to the twelve stones that the Israelites erected after they crossed the Jordan River. McCoy also stated in an interview with Christian Music Review that their name is also a reference to the twelve disciples that followed Jesus.

Band History

12 Stones was formed in 2000 in Mandeville, Louisiana, a small suburb north of New Orleans. The first line-up consisted of Paul McCoy (vocals), Kevin Dorr (bass), Eric Weaver (guitar), and Aaron Gainer (drums). After performing several live shows, the band recorded a demo and went to New York City where they performed at an industry showcase.

After that, the band was signed up by Wind-Up Records. The band's eponymous debut album was released in 2002, produced by Jay Baumgardner. The band gained more fame when vocalist McCoy performed in Evanescence's song "Bring Me to Life" opposite Amy Lee. The song was included in both Evanescence's album, Fallen and in the Daredevil film soundtrack. In 2004, Kevin Dorr quit the band and touring guitarist Greg Trammell later became an official member. Their second album, Potter's Field came out in 2004. Both albums were supported with heavy touring. Clint Amereno and then Aaron Hill were brought in to play bass for the shows. After their last tour, the band decided to take a break from the band to be with their respective families. After the departure of Greg Trammell, 12 Stones completed their lineup with ex-Breaking Point guitarist Justin Rimer, a producer on the band's third album, and former Presence bassist DJ Stange. Their third album, Anthem For The Underdog, was released in 2007. The album is said to be inspired by the effects of Hurricane Katrina on their hometown. Shortly after the album's release, Stange quit and Shawn Wade played bass for the band on tour.

Paramore is one of those bands that have earned their fair share of the h-word. ... "Franklin" is a song about their adopted hometown of Franklin, Tennessee

This album is an extremely strong debut, although it is a shame that it has been out for around a year. In general, the band has a strong punk/scene sound typical to their label (Fueled by Ramen). The first song is a strong, loud wake up call perfectly suited to its position on the album. From there, the record continues with more upbeat tunes like Pressure and Brighter. Later tracks like Conspiracy and Franklin provide a darker contrast to preceding songs

The lyrics are pretty typical fare for this sort of band: Nothing too deep, but nothing too shallow at the same time. They do fit the band and the lead singer, whose voice is raw but quite talented and well-controlled. She has just the right range for her band.

The album overall is mastered well with a defined bass and (usually) crisp treble. This album manages to do something that many other albums fail to achieve: it is easy to listen to but also provides for some great in-depth listening experiences. In other words, you can listen to it passively and enjoy it just as much as if you were heavily concentrating on the music.

All We Know Is Falling (2005) is the debut album of Fueled by Ramen band Paramore. It was recorded in just three weeks. "Emergency" is the second single from Paramore's album All We Know Is Falling. It was released in the UK on August 21, 2006 on 7" Vinyl and was a HMV Exclusive Single which came with a B-side, "Oh, Star," and a free poster. The song, written by Hayley Williams, is about how love is taken for granted and means nothing nowadays, and that relationships are really in emergency status. It was written about a time when a member's parent's were about to split up, and they had to watch this happen in front of them as a child with no power to do anything about it.

The music video starts with Hayley and Jeremy sitting in a derelict room. The other band members walk in, with everyone has having cuts and bandages over their body. The director walks in throwing Hayley some carnations and leading the way outside. Outside we see a set with cameras and lighting, the band gets blood make-up touch-up and the director mouths "Action!" and the band does a group performance.

The carnations worn by each band member in the music video represent "emotional baggage" being carried around, stated Williams in an interview.[citation needed] The video was directed by Shane Drake who also directed their "Pressure" video as well as Panic! at the Disco's "I Write Sins" music video.

The dress Hayley wore in the video is now in the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame in the Warped Tour exhibit.

Paramore Biography

Paramore began in Franklin, TN with Pop/Rock outfit, whilst lead singer Hayley Williams meets his brothers Josh (guitars) and Zac Farro (drums) after moving into town from Mississippi. The two had a young band that the burgeoning singer was soon asked to join. Opening Williams' 13-year-old eyes to the likes of U2, the Cure, Sparta, and Failure, the teenagers began performing together under the name Paramore following the addition of Jason Bynum on rhythm guitar and Jeremy Davis on bass.

Local hangouts and a school talent show helped the young band members hone their chops before at last moving up to gigs at area rock clubs. The quintet's sweet melodies and earnest charisma eventually caught the attention of Florida's Fueled by Ramen label, which signed the band in April 2005.

Working with James Wisner (Dashboard Confessional, Under oath) and Mike Green (Yellow card, the Black Maria), Paramore recorded their full-length debut, All We Know Is Falling. The album was issued in late July 2005, and Paramore jumped quickly into their van to support it.
In addition to a spot on New Jersey's Bamboozle Festival and multiple Warped Tour dates, they also played shows with bands like Simple Plan and Stray light Run. Hunter Lamb replaced Bynum on guitar in December 2005; time was spent in the early part of the next year on dates with Halifax, So They Say, and Bayside.

Similar to many of their musical peers, summer 2006 was then passed back on the annual Warped Tour circuit. Lamb parted ways with the group in early 2007 to get married, and Paramore continued on touring and writing new material as a quartet. The following spring they recorded their sophomore album, Riot! It is about the pressure of being a teenager. The video deals with two characters a boy and a girl (who are a couple, as well) interlaced with the band playing the song. Both of them dislike their jobs. The boy works at a fast food restaurant where he receives poor treatment. The girl is a model who is refused things that she enjoys (picking her own dress, eating chocolate, etc.) Eventually the boy quits his job and goes to meet his girlfriend, but she is busy preparing for a photoshoot. The boy decides to set off the sprinklers in the building. Everyone in the building rushes out, except for the girl who stays in her chair enjoying the water. The boy and girl manage to get out and the video ends.

The single failed to chart in the United States or the UK. But, they recently released it in the Philippines. It is now charting on NU 107.
